認為機油的粘度越大越好的觀點是不對的。機油的粘度不僅是機油分類的依據，而且也與發動機功率的大小，運動零件的磨損量、活塞環的密封程度、機油及燃料的消耗量、發動機冷啟動的輕快性、零件的溫度等密切相關。 機油的粘度過大，會有以下幾個方面的缺點： １、發動機低溫啟動困難 機油粘度過大，在發動機低溫啟動時上油太慢，油壓雖然高，但機油通過量並不多，主要是因為粘度大，油的泵送性能差，此時最易出現暫時的干摩擦或半流體摩擦，這正是發動機摩擦的主要原因。試驗證明，自發動機啟動時，曲軸轉動所需的轉矩大，因此轉速低，不易起著火。 ２、功率損失大 機油粘度大，零件摩擦表面的摩擦阻力也就增加，這樣不僅使零件摩損增加，而且摩擦損失功率也增加，另一方面曲軸的攪油阻åŠ
